Oakridge School Celebrates NEA's Read Across America

What is NEA's Read Across America?

NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.

On Wednesday, March 2, Oakridge School celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday with a pajama party. The staff and students donned pj 's and slippers along with hats while they enjoyed an afternoon watching the Cat in the Hat and having a story read to them. A fun day was had by all.

On Thursday, September 16, students from Oakridge School traveled to Lehi for a visit to the Legacy Swim Park. The students along with their teachers and the schools Special Ed technicians who assist the students in the pool, enjoyed a morning of swimming.

High School Iterns at Oakridge School

Every school year students from various high schools in Nebo District sign up for work-based training internships at Oakridge School. The students are assigned a specific classroom in which to work with the developmentally disabled students at Oakridge.  This semenster Lauren Wake and Brooke Kramer will be working with the students at Oakridge twice a week.

Lauren is a senior at Springville High School. She is a drum major with the Springville High Marching Band, a member of the Drama Guild and a member of the Springville Youth City Council. Lauren's plans after graduation are to attend college and double major in both Special Education and Music Education. Lauren says, " I love being able to work at Oakridge".  Laurens is the daughter Paul and Nicki Wake of Springville.

Brooke a senior at Spanish Fork High School is Vice-President of Spirit on the Student Body Council. She plays Soccor and Softball for the Dons. Brooke is undecided on her major but is leaning towards a degree in Special Education or Communications. Brooke is the daughter of Greg and Stephanie Kramer of Spanish Fork.

Springville Seminary Students at Oakridge School

Once again the halls of Oakridge School are being traversed by the Seminary Students at Springville High School. These students are responsible for getting the disabled students to and from their classes at Oakridge to their seminary class at the High School. These high school students are always helpful and  courteous and we appreciate their willingness to help their peers with disabilities.
