New Faces at Oakridge School

Submitted by teresa.gordon on

A new school year has brought new faces and changes to Oakridge School. Dr. Richard Kay, the Principal for five years at Oakridge retired to pursue a life of leisure. Lynn Mecham, newly appointed Assistant Principal of Springville High School now oversees the duties of Principal of Oakridge as well. Mr. Mecham has jumped in with both feet and is sharing his enthusiasm and excitement with the staff and studemts.

Along with Mr. Mecham, John Ballard, Program Specialist  with Nebo School District has been assigned to serve as Oakridge's LEA.  Mr. Ballard will share duties with Mr. Mecham in making sure that Oakridge students are getting the best possible education.

Elizabeth Reynolds has joined the faculty at Oakridge. She replaces Peggy Freek who transferred to the new Sierra Bonita Elementary School. Liz, former department chair of Special Ed at Salem Hills High School is excited to be working with the students at Oakridge. Liz specializes in helping students with developmental disabilities learn to transition into the community once they have aged out of the public school system. She teaches with a loving heart and a guitar!

Cindy Gerow has replaced Bonnie Hardy as the School Nurse.  Cindy is very familiar with the students at Oakridge. Before becoming the full time nurse at Oakridge she sat quietly behind the scenes writing health care plans and helped Bonnie with nursing duties as needed. Cindy can be found at any given time, administering meds, taking temps,  assisting with feedings and teaching staff how to care for their students. Cindy is a great asset and we appreciate her hard work.
