Braille Notebook

Christopher is a student in Tasha Lewis’ class.  He writes by using a tool called, a braille notebook. This is like a computer without the monitor.  He is able to write not just words of sentences, but full papers and stories.  It also allows him to save his work so that if needs be he can come back to it.

Friday's Fun-filled Field Trips

Field trips are always fun!  Recently Oakridge went on a field trip to BYU where some of the students were able to swim with BYU students while others had open gym time and one on one time with a BYU student.  These BYU students participate in a program called “Gym Kids”.  This is a great opportunity for the students to be social, play, and just be themselves.

Lets Go Fly A ... Parachute?

Gym time is loved by all students.  It gives the students, technicians, and teachers time out of the classroom.  It also helps everyone get their wiggles out!  Recently Oakridge was able to use one of the gyms at Springville High School, where there was plenty of room to play volleyball and play with the parachute.

"Spiders, Spiders Everywhere"

Submitted by paige.russell on

This week our students read books about bugs, more specifically spiders, during one of our planning times.  Each student made a hat of a spider and had a fun time showing them off.  Creepy, crawly legs and all!

Planning Time

Submitted by paige.russell on

Daily scheduled group lessons allow the teacher to have “planning time”.  One teacher will prepare a lesson or activity, and teach it to all the students from all the classes.  This allows the students to interact with each other outside of their typical day to day routine. It is also a time that the students can get out of the classroom and enjoy some sunshine at the park! Planning time gives the other teachers time to focus on preparing and organizing lessons for the upcoming days and weeks that best fit the needs of the students.
